The National Executive of the Ghana Journalists Association announced that this year’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 23 October 2020 at the Ghana International Press Center.
The Meeting is held in accordance with Article 34 (a) (ii) of the GJA Constitution, which is the highest decision-making body of the Association, to be convened by the National Executive in the first quarter of each year.
The meeting was postponed until October 23, 2020, due to the imposition of Covid-19 restrictions by President Akufo-Addo, in March 2020, and in the desire to defend the rule of law and guarantee the security of the public health.
A statement signed by Mr. Kofi Yeboah, the Secretary General of GJA, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said that the AGM would discuss the Annual Report of the Secretary General.
The meeting will also discuss the audited accounts of the Association to be presented by the National Treasurer, deliberate on the reports and the audited financial accounts of the Ghana International Press Center, which will be presented by the Director of the GIPC.
The rest are regional reports and any other matter raised by the National Council or a member.
He said that “after the imposition of the Covid-19 restrictions by President Akufo-Addo, in March 2020, and in the desire to defend the rule of law and guarantee the safety of public health, the National Executive decided to postpone the AGM for later in the year in which the restrictions and the propitious environment for the realization of the event are eased.
The statement said that all members in good standing were entitled to attend the AGM, emphasizing that members in good standing, with the exception of honorary members and students, will have the right to vote at the meeting.
