Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has denied the promise of the Democratic National Congress (NDC) to pay local players GH1,500 subsidies when voting for power in the December elections.

He argued that the opposition party that has a history of failing to deliver on campaign promises cannot be trusted.

“I am struggling to understand how NDC will deliver on its promise to pay local GH players1,500 as a monthly allowance, “he said during an interview in ‘Ekosii Sen’ in Asempa FM.

His comment follows a promise by the opposition to make soccer attractive, especially to young people, by paying monthly allowances.

But that “unrealistic” promise, Dr. Bawumia said, is just a trick to win elections.

He stressed that the NDC led by Mahama lacks the credibility to deliver on its promises.

The vice president said that the advances made by the New Patriotic Party (PNP) in sports development in the country are incomparable.

“The NPP is delivering results in the area of sports. We pay players through the YEA program every month; we are building 10 multipurpose stadiums in the regions.

“In the future, the NPP will build artificial grass pitches in all districts,” he added.
