The Supreme Head of the Vakpo Traditional Area, Togbega Gbogbolulu V, has called on the state to ruthlessly treat the secessionist group seeking a break from the Volta region of Ghana.
He said that the people in his area are citizens of Ghana and will continue to be.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday October 2, Togbega Gbogbolulu V said: “We wish to state categorically that we have not supported any such group or asked any group to fight for independence on our behalf. We are bona fide citizens of Ghana and will remain so.
“We wish to send a strong warning to any person or group of people who are within our traditional area to participate in any agenda of this type or in promoting the activities of this group, those people will be detained and quickly handed over to the agencies of security.
“While we congratulate law enforcement agencies for intervening to deal with the situation, we demand swift prosecution of the perpetrators of this heinous crime to send the right signals to others to desist from these unpatriotic and nation-destroying activities.”
Meanwhile, the Institute for Peace and Governance (IPEG) has also called on the government to exert force to deal with increasing separatist upheavals by the West Togo / Secessionist Group, whose activities challenge Ghana’s existence. as state.
A statement issued and signed by Justin Bayor, IPEG Program Director, noted that there is very likely an increase in the number of such attacks from now until December 2020 and beyond.
The attacks will most likely target state infrastructure / facilities, as well as property, with minimal deaths and injuries, he said.
“The violent activities of the secessionists will then assume dimensions to cover other parts of the country, beyond the territory of Western Togo.
“We recommend that the State use its resources to increase its intelligence gathering capabilities, key to repelling them, in order to prevent the secessionist group from reaching its projected evolution.”
