West Africans are working to secure the services of more actors in the diaspora

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku expects more new faces from dual-nationals in the Black Stars when the next squad announcement is made ahead of a double African Cup of Nations qualifying title 2022 in November.

The West Africans have decided to follow in the footsteps of Nigeria and Morocco to expand their pool of players with players from the diaspora.

Ghana coach CK Akonnor has already called up French-born Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku for international friendlies against Mali and Qatar on October 9 and 12 respectively.

“Our FA has been very proactive, we have created what we call the International Relations Committee led by my good self,” Okraku told 3 Sports.

“Our key responsibility is to scout around the world for Ghanaian players, collect their data and deliver it to coaching staff.

“We are following all the talents that you may have seen on the screens, but obviously we cannot have access to all of them.

“We have a very good team, there are good players in the current squad. We want the squad to be even more competitive, for whatever reason we want to have players beyond the shores of Ghana.

“I am sure that if we meet again in November for a competitive match, they will see some faces, since CK Akonnor has called Alexander Djiku, who is a Ghanaian but lives in France, he is very competitive and I am sure he will add value to Our selection “.

Following the friendlies in October, Ghana will return to action with a brace against Sudan in the Afcon playoffs in November.

Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah and Brighton and Hove Albion right-back Tariq Lamptey, both born in England and currently representing their country of birth in the Under-21 category, top Ghana’s priority list.

Dutch youth stars Brian Brobbey (Ajax Amsterdam) and Derrick Luckassen (Anderlecht), France’s Elisha Owusu (Gent) and Enoch Kwateng (Bordeaux) and Anderlecht winger Francis Amuzu (Belgium) are among Ghana’s targets.

Anderlecht forward Jeremy Doku, who was also a top priority for Ghana, has chosen to represent Belgium in the senior category, and will make his competition debut for his country of birth last month.
