The Ejisu constituency, which separated from Ejisu- Juaben in 2016, is one of the constituencies represented in Ghana’s parliament.

The Ejisu constituency is known worldwide as one of the most important historical communities with a rich cultural heritage and tourist attractions.

It is the home of the legendary Yaa Asantewaa, who led the Asante warriors to fight against the British colonialists who tried to capture the golden stool and dismantle Asanteman’s unity and strength.

It is also home to the national cloth of Ghana and the world-acclaimed Kente, whose intricate designs and patterns are intertwined with the artistic ingenuity and brilliant craftsmanship of the Bonwire people.

The electoral district is located in the central part of the Ashanti region and has been one of the strongholds of the New Patriotic Party (PNP) in presidential and parliamentary elections since 1996.

The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) is the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi. He has been a constituency deputy on the PNP ballot since 2009.

However, he lost his seat in the 2020 party primaries to John Ampontuah Kumah, executive director of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (NEIP), who will participate on the PNP ballot to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Out of a total of 65,293 valid votes registered in the 2016 parliamentary elections, the PNP candidate in the person of Kwabena Owusu Aduomi obtained 54,508 votes, while the NDC candidate, Madame Gloria Korshie Huze, obtained 9,485 votes.

What makes this year’s parliamentary elections more interesting in the constituency is the fact that the two main contenders are new entrants, as the NDC had also chosen a new candidate in the person of George Kwame Huze to compete with John. Kuma, the PNP candidate.

A total of 102,727 people have had their names registered in the Provisional Register of the Electoral Commission to vote in the next general elections scheduled for December 2020.

George Huze, an IT consultant and electrical engineer, is competing with John Kumah, a lawyer, and both have stepped up their campaigns.

Lawyer John Kumah told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that his campaign had mainly focused on how to mobilize resources to help people improve their living conditions.

George Huze, for his part, did not appear to feel threatened, as he is very confident of taking the seat from the PNP.

He said his campaign had been door-to-door with people in the constituency to sell the good message of the NDC to win the presidential and parliamentary elections.
