The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama, has expressed concern about the culture of impunity that has been increasing since President Akufo-Addo took office.

He said that even before becoming president, Nana Akufo-Addo participated in trends that deliberately raised the political temperature.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Nkrankwanta as part of his 3-day tour of the Bono region, Mr. Mahama noted that the culture of impunity glorified by the Akufo-Addo administration has generated fear and panic among the people. .

He recounted some of the violent acts of impunity by pro-Akufo-Addo government vigilante groups such as the attack on a national security officer in Kumasi, as well as the subsequent vandalism perpetrated in a court of law in Kumasi and the release of suspects .

He also recalled the violence and intimidation unleashed by pro-government vigilante groups on NDC supporters during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections.

“But, in all of these, those found to have committed the crimes are still walking free, and the government did not act, especially on the report of the Emile Short Commission that investigated the violence in Ayawaso West Wuogon,” Mr. Mahama said.

He also condemned the attack on some NDC supporters in Nkrankwanta during the nationwide voter registration exercise by the Election Commission, which has paralyzed one of the victims.

Mahama said that the PNP under the supervision of President Akufo-Addo has shown that they cannot unite Ghanaians and therefore it is imperative that they be voted in the general elections on December 7, 2020.

He also promised to streamline and transform recruitment into police service and to end the current situation where people are secretly recruited into police service.

For his part, the NDC Secretary General, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, also condemned the culture of impunity, adding that the next NDC government will implement programs and policies geared towards modern policing methods.
