The Audit Service says that all pending audited reports that it has yet to submit to Parliament will be ready before the end of 2020.

The service’s deputy public relations officer, Mr. Bernard Conduah, in an interview on Eyewitness News, said that most of the outstanding audited accounts that have not yet been submitted to Parliament have been sent for printing and will be available for the Parliament as soon as they are printed. .

“We were supposed to deliver the report home by June 30, 2020 … We can assure the entire nation that all reports that are due will be delivered before the end of the year … They will not be shipped in bulk , as [they are ready],” he said.

“For example, this October, I am aware that at least three of the remaining reports will go to Parliament. They are with the printers, ”he added.

Mr Conduah’s comment comes after a minority demand in Parliament for an urgent submission of the delayed reports.

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, at a press conference earlier this week, said the failure of the Acting Auditor General to report to Parliament for the 2019 financial year is in breach of the Constitution and the Law on the Audit Service.

He said that the Interim Auditor General must urgently present his reports to Parliament for the 2019 financial year and asked President Akufo-Addo to instruct the Audit Service to do so “as he ordered the Auditor General to proceed in his legal license” .

“We are hopeful that the delays are not intended to cover up misconduct on the part of the government because this year is an election year,” said the caucus leader.

But Mr. Conduah in an interview on Eyewitness news he said there was no deliberate plan to delay the submission of the reports.

He said that although the COVID-19 pandemic slowed down the work of the Service to prepare the reports for Parliament, he is hopeful that Parliament will receive the report before the end of the year.

He said the Acting Auditor General has already written to the Speaker of Parliament to inform him about the delay in submitting the report.

“The Acting Auditor General, on behalf of the management, wrote to the Speaker of Parliament to inform him that due to the pandemic, the submission of the reports will be delayed … We present this letter on 20 July 2020.”

He added that the reports that have already been submitted to the President of Parliament are available on the website of the audit service.
