The deputy secretary general of the New Patriotic Party, lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, has accused former Hohoe South MP Kosi kedem of being an instigator of the activities of the western Togolese secessionists.
The former Member of Parliament in the wake of recent attacks by some secessionists has argued that despite the fact that the United Nations facilitated a plebiscite in 1956 in which the former West Togo became part of present-day Ghana, there is no legal document binding to support the Union.
However, according to Obiri Boahen, who spoke to Okay Fm’s Kwame Nkrumah Tikese overseen by GhanaWeb, there is not an iota of legitimacy for the secessionists’ arguments and it is people like Kosi Kedem who, by virtue of their statements and actions, are stimulating the secessionists in.
“It is the characters and tastes of Kosi Kedem who have been writing these types of articles, the ones who have been instigating, inciting, designing and facilitating these guys to give them the strength and audacity to do that.” He affirmed.
He said the former MP in a recent article published by the Ghanaian Times newspaper made similar claims that are a distortion of history and lamented how a former member of the state parliament will participate in such acts.
The lawyer Obiri Boahnen mentioned that he has already written to the National Media Commission about the publication that he described as in bad taste.
Speaking about the motivation for the recent increase in secessionist activities in the country, Obiri Boahen accused elements of the opposition National Democratic Congress of being an integral part of the call for separation.
However, he expressed his satisfaction at the condemnations issued by the leaders of the Volta region and emphasized that the territory of Western Togo is extended beyond the Region.
