The Caucus of Members of Parliament (MP) in Parliament has visited the family of the murdered man (Emmanuel Kale) in Juapong, North Tongu district, during the riots by separatist groups.
In a police statement on Friday, it was reported that the deceased was a member of the Foundation of the Homeland Study Group (HSGF) that had carried out a simultaneous attack on the Aveyime and Mepe police station in the district of North Tongu in the Volta region.
He is believed to have been caught in the crossfire during the exchange of fire with the joint security team that had been deployed to restore calm to the region.
Following news of his death, the area’s deputy, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, visited the bereaved family of the late Emmanuel Kale on Tuesday.
During his visit, he pledged his party’s commitment to ensuring that the family is served justice.
He also promised to meet the needs of the grieving family.
Meanwhile, Juapong residents are calling on the government and the national security adviser to address the situation and restore peace to their community.
“We cannot leave our own homes, we are threatened. Nana Addo and the National Security Advisor must speak so that we can have peace in Juapong.
“Most of the young people are in hiding because wherever they are the security people will pick them up and beat them. Either they arrest you or they beat you up. So you can’t go out, our boys all leave in fear. “
In recent events, 31 suspected people have been arrested in connection with the riots and are currently in police custody. State prosecutors charged them on five accounts in an Accra circuit court on Monday.
The 31 suspected people who were arrested, according to some Juapong residents, are not the actual people who attacked the Aveyime and Mepe police station on Friday.
“They are not the real people who committed the crime. The people who committed the crime and blocked the road are people we don’t know from this town.
“They are strangers, they are not one of us. These boys went to the gutter to observe what was happening and they picked them up for National Security to look for them, “he added.
