Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that more than one person was killed in the crossfire last Friday between the country’s security agencies and some people believed to be members of the Western Western Togo Restoration Front.

The MP said reports received from his constituents indicate that at least 3 people died from the incident.

“The second body was found yesterday. This will confirm what my constituents have been telling me, ”he said on the Super Morning Show.

This comes after the MP on the same show warned law enforcement agencies against the use of extreme force when dealing with people who are perceived as members of the West Togo secessionist group.

Last Friday, the group simultaneously attacked the Aveyime and Mepe police stations in the North Tongu constituency, leaving one officer injured.

Subsequently, more than 30 people were arrested in connection with the incident after a ceasefire between the suspected West Togo separatist group and the police and army.

Police reports confirmed one person dead, however, the MP says there could be more people dead. Therefore, he has warned law enforcement agencies to be more cautious in dealing with the matter.

“It is important that we take the time to investigate to know the exact scope of the victims, to know exactly who these invaders are, who sponsors them because now they are clearly radicalized and sophisticated,” he said.

In addition, he expressed his concern about the nature of the response that National Security has given since the group’s emergence.

Ablakwa said the National Security response has been inadequate.

While asking them to improve their game, he also urged them to involve community members to help with investigations.
