The Volta Minority Caucus in Parliament has toured parts of the Volta region that were attacked by secessionist groups in the area.

Led by North Tongu MP, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the group visited the areas that experienced the attacks, including the STC courtyard.

They also visited the family who lost their loved one in the crossfire that occurred between secessionists and security personnel on Friday, September 25, 2020.

Secessionist groups insist that the region is an independent western Togo.

Meanwhile, the Dean of Academic Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and General Staff College (GAFCSC), Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso, has said that there is no clause in the agreement signed between the then Gold Coast and French Togo for the latter to secede from Ghana after 50 years despite having agreed through a plebiscite to become part of the independent Gold Coast in 1956.

His comment follows recent militia attacks by secessionist groups such as the Western Togo Restoration Front; and the Home Study Group Foundation (HSGF), among others, in the Volta region.

The Togolanders, through the violent insurgency of their separatist groups, have intensified their call for independence.

Last week, members of the HSGF blocked the roads leading to the region, raised their flags, captured three policemen and exchanged fire with security agencies as part of the agitation for their independence.

In the early hours of Tuesday, September 29, 2020, a sister separatist group attacked the STC yard in Ho and burned two of its buses.

The narrative has been that French French Togo could secede from Ghana after 50 years of independence, according to a treaty they signed with the League of Nations and the Gold Coast before independence.

But in reaction to this development, Dr. Antwi-Danso pointed out at the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 that history has been distorted.

According to him, no part of the treaty speaks of French Togo’s break with Ghana after 50 years.

Furthermore, he told program host Abdul Karim Ibrahim that the narrative that all the sheep want to separate was also false.

“Unknown to many of us, I checked the map from then before the plebiscite, the area from Tongu and the area from Anlo to Peki was already on the Gold Coast.

“It is being made as if all our brothers and sisters in the land of Ewe want some kind of secession and that all of the land of Ewe is part of the Trans Volta Togoland. That is false.

“If you look at the map, you will see that Keta and others were already part of the Gold Coast, so they did not participate in the plebiscite,” said Dr. Antwi-Danso.

He continued: “The second is that there is a clause in the agreement that states that 50 years after the marriage, they can repeal the marriage; that is not true … A treaty is the first port of call when talking about international law and it will tell you that this is never like writing a treaty ”.

According to Dr. Antwi-Danso, when writing a treaty, “you state the terms of how to repeal the treaty, so it is false, it is not true that there is a clause allowing them to walk away. That is false ”, he emphasized.

Dr. Antwi-Danso, therefore, described the actions of the separatists as “pure terrorism” and called on all Ghanaians to condemn it while state security denounces the perpetrators because they pose a serious danger to life and life. property.
