The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwesi Amoako-Atta, has advised contractors working on the various highway projects in the country to desist from doing poor quality works.

He said that road projects were important, they had to be durable, and therefore they had to stand the test of time in order for the unborn generations to benefit.

The Minister also commissioned stakeholders and consultants to effectively monitor the projects and ensure that quality materials are used to keep the projects going.

“The government cannot use taxpayer money to pay any contractor who has done poor quality work.” He is stressed.

Amoak-Atta, made the call during a press conference in Sefwi Wiawso to provide an update on ongoing road projects in the Region after President Akufo-Addo inspected the various sites to determine the progress of work on some projects. roads and also grass for the start of new highway projects within the Region as part of the President’s three-day visit to the North West Region.

Some of the roads inspected included the Sefwi Wiawso to Akotombra road, the Bodi-Ahebianso road, the Benchemaa Nkwanta – Osei Kojokrom road and the Bibiani city roads.

The rest was grass cutting for the construction of the Akontombra-Dadieso and Enchi-Elubo roads.

Mr. Amoako-Atta indicated that the region had a total road network size of approximately 3,745 kilometers, of which 33 were currently under construction in different communities within the Region.

He hinted that his team was planning to award 38 more highway projects to help address the poor nature of the roads in the area.

Amoako Atta expressed satisfaction with the work done so far, noting that aside from a few contractors who left their project site due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the others were on site.

Therefore, he tasked the engineers of Autopistas Regionales to ensure periodic follow-up to have first-hand information and also to evaluate the performance of the contractors.

He hinted that funds were raised to complete all the highway projects, which have started in the new regions to fulfill the government’s highway policy year.

Amoako Atta appealed to the people of the North Western Region to reciprocate the gesture in the December general election to retain Nana Akufo-Addo in government to continue his good vision of the country.
