Election Commission Chair Jean Mensa notified all stakeholders in the December elections in Ghana that she will carry out her duties without fear or favor.
She said that, as a Christian, she will adhere to the values of justice to ensure a credible and transparent election on December 7.
“I also have a duty to God and to our country to be an agent of peace. As the head of the Election Commission, the signals I send, whether to our staff or the public, are important as they would have an impact on the elections and on our nation, ”said Ms. Mensa.
She added: “As a Christian, I am a firm believer in the principles that Christ upholds, Justice, Peace and Truth, I am committed to ensuring that these principles are reflected in everything that both I and the commission do, I am committed to being fair to carry out my activities without fear or favoritism.
“I promise to work and I assume my duties to ensure that it is the will of the people that is the will of God that is maintained, as an agent of peace I commit myself to the truth and not to alter the will of God. I have the responsibility to respect this principle and, being God my guide and helper, I am sure that I will not leave him or the people of Ghana in the name of Jesus.
The head of the EC has been attacked by the main opposition, describing her departure from the electoral management body as “incompetent”.
The main opposition leader, John Mahama, had to suspend his campaign tour of the Bono region on Tuesday due to “increasing reports of challenges with voter registration and the exhibition process” that he received.
The display exercise has been plagued with some anomalies, such as name duplication, missing names and similar serial numbers for different voters, about which the former president and the NDC have expressed their doubts.
