A total of 19 more people in the Volta region have tested positive for the new coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of cases in the region to May 30-1, 2020.

These numbers were detected in the Enhanced Contact Tracking Exercise with an additional routine surveillance in the region.

Fifteen of the 19 positive cases were contacts of the six quarantined travelers in Aflao who confirmed positive on April 12 of this year, while the remaining three who tested positive were contacts of confirmed positive cases in Hohoe.

The remaining positive contact was a 71-year-old woman who is closely associated with a case in Ho.

Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister in a press release signed and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said that the Regional Committee for Public Health Emergency Management (RPHEMC) decided to bring the actual number of COVID-19 cases as declared by the Regional Directorate of Health in the public domain and said that all cases were in isolation and responding to treatment.

He noted that the only additional case detected by routine surveillance was a 45-year-old man who returned to Kpando from Accra on April 20 to seek medical treatment after he began to experience worsening respiratory symptoms while in Accra.

The Regional Minister said that all cases detected were the result of public health interventions implemented to quickly detect and isolate all cases.

Dr. Letsa said the Region’s response activities had been significantly enhanced by certification from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) laboratory to assess the disease, while additional steps had been taken in collaboration with other parties. interested in rapidly expanding laboratory capacity.

He noted that the Public Health Emergency Management Committee, based on technical advice, sanctioned mass testing of groups with relatively higher risks to allow the region to have a “firmer understanding” of virus transmission in hot spots emerging.

The Minister praised the citizens who had “so far complied with all preventive measures despite the unfavorable consequences that this entails in some cases” and warned those who did not implement preventive measures to do so immediately, as they represented a danger to them and for society in general.

Dr. Letsa urged citizens to continue to observe all preventive and preventive measures implemented in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
