Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed that ten of the 19 AK47 rifles that were stolen by activists in western Togo last Friday have yet to be recovered.
He noted that the police vehicle and the weapons that were confiscated have been recovered, but ten outstanding weapons have not yet been recovered.
“The numbers we have are ten pending that are recovering.
“Remember they seized the police vehicle and then some weapons. The vehicle and the arms have mostly been recovered with an outstanding ten that are part of the outstanding works that are currently being carried out ”.
When asked how the perpetrators knew where the police were keeping their weapons, Oppong Nkrumah said there are two parts.
“Actionable intelligence is what allowed law enforcement agencies to present what we consider to be the most dire aspect of their plot.
“But to be honest, in this country, there are times when a mob attacks the police station because of some people.”
He noted that some of the perpetrators were arrested after a shootout between security agents.
The Minister of the Volta region, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, has called on Ghanaians and investors to continue to engage in business activities despite the secessionists’ attempt to create confusion in the region.
He said security has been restored and security personnel have been stationed at strategic points in the region to prevent any such incidents.
The group, after blocking the main points of entry, attacked two police stations in Aveyime and Mepe, and seized 10 AK47 assault rifles after breaking into the police arsenal.
They looted police stations, released inmates into custody, physically assaulted and injured some officers.
