The government has asked the public to continue to strictly observe the entire preventive label of COVID-19 to prevent a new wave of infections.
Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister, who addressed a press conference in Accra on Sunday, said the government had taken note of a new wave of COVID-19 infections in some parts of the world, especially Europe, America and Asia.
He said that countries in some parts of Europe were seeing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, after many of them had successfully slowed the initial outbreak a few months ago.
He claimed that scientists had also reported that countries like France, the United Kingdom, Poland, Spain and the Netherlands were currently experiencing what they called a highly feared second wave and were beginning to take some steps to curb it.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said that “the Government of Ghana takes note of the fact that at this time our air borders are open to flights from some of these countries, thus increasing our risk.
“At this time, therefore, the government of Ghana is strictly following the inbound flight protocols that were outlined a few weeks ago when the airports were opened,” he said.
He stated that in addition to strict observance of this protocol, the country would continue with the two-layer testing approach currently being carried out at airports, to avoid the second wave of the virus.
He said that Ghana, therefore, continued to strictly observe development in these countries, which would inform whether or not they would consider some travel restrictions from the locations.
However, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah explained that Ghana’s approach towards managing the COVID-19 pandemic had remained on limiting the importation of the virus into the country and managing community spread within its jurisdiction, in addition to the other part of your national strategy.
He said that currently, despite the confirmation of 131 new cases of infection, active cases of COVID-19 in the country have dropped to 477 people, and that is why the public is being encouraged to continue to observe the protocols, to ensure further reduction and eventual elimination of the virus.
He said that Ghana had so far confirmed a total of 46,353 COVID-19 cases, of which 45,577 were treated and discharged from various treatment and isolation facilities across the country, but sadly 299 people had died from non-delayed causes. as a result of viral infection.
He said that while developments in Europe and other parts of the world could be cause for concern, adherence to protocols and approval of two-tiered tests for travelers from abroad would inform his next course of action to ease his restrictions.
