Diego Costa has joked that his new association with Luis Suárez will lead to many “bites and kicks” on the Atlético de Madrid field.
Notorious pantomime football villains have teamed up at the Wanda Metropolitano after Suarez completed his £ 5.5 million transfer from Barcelona last week.
Suarez’s arrival already has fans waiting with great anticipation for the combined duo for the first time given their history of causing trouble on the field.
But manager Diego Simeone kept them waiting a bit longer after Suarez came off the bench in Atlético’s 6-1 win over Granada on Sunday, only to take Costa’s place.
However, speaking after the game, Costa was no less excited about the prospect of teaming up with the Uruguayan, saying of their impending partnership: “It’s great. One bites and the other kicks.”

And he added: “We are very lucky to have Luis, I don’t understand how Barça could have let him go.
“He is going to help us with many goals, as well as his warrior spirit and hunger to win trophies. I hope he can help us win another trophy for our fans, but we must take each game as it comes.”
Costa had already done his work of the day, opening the scoring in the ninth minute with a header to the center from Ángel Correa.
By the time Suárez entered the fray, Atleti had three goals for good, thanks to the follow-up efforts of Correa himself and Joao Félix.

However, Suárez’s impact was immediate, as he placed on his substitute teammate Fernando Llorente for Atlético’s quarter just minutes after entering.

A goal from Granada-born Jorge Molina Vidal was little more than a consolation, and Suárez assured that he did not detract from the brightness of the afternoon by adding his second in injury time.
Llorente became a supplier again, perhaps a cause for concern for Costa given his already burgeoning partnership, when Suarez rocked the vertical on the first try before hitting the rebound to round out the score.
