Defender Alexander Djiku was sadly injured on Sunday afternoon while playing for RC Strasbourg in the team’s dramatic 3-2 loss to AS Monaco in French Ligue 1.
Last Friday, the French-born defender with Ghanaian roots received his first call-up to play for the Black Stars team in an upcoming friendly match against Mali next month.
Presenting his team today, Alexander Djiku was unable to go all the way and had to be substituted after 56 minutes of play.
The center-back who can also play in the center of the field received a blow and signaled the substitution due to the pain he was experiencing.
While it is a huge blow, it is not yet known for sure if the injury has the potential to require his replacement on the Black Stars team.
It is understood that the 26-year-old will have to undergo an evaluation on Monday to learn the extent of his injury.
If Djiku manages to recover in time before the next international break, he should be fine to report on Ghana’s friendly match against Mali on October 9 in Antalya, Turkey.
