Juventus insisted on Sunday they had done “nothing wrong” after an investigation was opened into possible fraud in connection with an Italian test conducted by former transfer target Luis Suárez.

The exam was a required first step for the 33-year-old Suárez to receive a passport before a possible transfer from Barcelona to Juventus, a move that was later abandoned with the signing of the forward by Atlético de Madrid.

“We did nothing wrong. We verified the possibility that Suárez would be released from Barcelona, we did all the necessary controls and we acted with total transparency and in accordance with the rules,” Juventus football director told Sky Sport Italia Fabio Paratici.

“We are completely serene,” he added about the investigation of the Suárez exam, which took place in Perugia on September 17.

Suárez is suspected of cheating, with the complicity of his teachers, to pass the exam.

The Italian champions could not have signed Suárez in any other way because they had already reached their quota of non-EU players.

Meanwhile, Suárez scored two and prepared another in a sensational 20-minute debut for Atlético de Madrid on Sunday as his new team began their La Liga season with a resounding 6-1 win over Granada.
