Veteran media personality Oheneyere Gifty Anti has declared his commitment to the Zero Malaria Starts With We campaign in a media launch in Accra.

The event that was organized by African Media and Media Research Network [AMMEREN], National Malaria Control Program [NMCP] and Speak Up Africa aims to use the media as a tool to help eradicate malaria in Ghana and Africa as a whole.

Oheneyere Gifty Anti, who was the moderator of the show, noted that journalists have larger platforms and the opportunity to engage the public on the need to eliminate malaria by educating residents through their various broadcast media.

She challenged journalists to take responsibility for ensuring that their colleagues join the fight against malaria by doing more reporting on the dangers of malaria and its related problems.

“If you will be remembered for something in your community, let the campaign against malaria be one of the things you will be remembered for,” urged Oheneyere Gifty Anti

Oheneyere Gifty Anti pointed out that journalists have a light of power to inform, guide and educate and direct the public and to ensure that children under the age of five do not die of malaria.

The First Lady, HE Rebecca Akufo Addo, officially launched the campaign on April 25, 2019 to mark World Malaria Day, making the country the seventh African nation to formally declare ‘Zero malaria begins with me’.

Although Ghana has made progress in fighting malaria in recent years, it remains a high-burden country with the entire population at risk of a recurrence. However, sustained mobilization is needed at all levels of society to move forward.

The National Malaria Control Program and Speak Up Africa, a strategic communication and advocacy organization, are collaborating on the implementation of this campaign in Ghana.

The campaign will consist of the following 3 key elements: driving political will, private sector involvement, and media involvement.
