The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has assured President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that the nine model schools being built by his Government will be completed by the end of the year.
According to Opoku Prempeh, the establishment of these new high schools includes the construction of seven (7) new high schools and the improvement of two (2) existing schools into model schools, bringing the total to nine (9) schools.
The Minister of Education made it known on Saturday, September 26, 2020, when President Akufo-Addo visited the construction site of one of these schools in Awaso, in the Bibiani / Anhwiaso / Bekwai constituency of the North Western Region. .
The seven new schools are located in Kwadaso, Dabaa, Awaso, Abomosu, Akrodie, Weija and Kpasenkpe. Seven (7) of the nine (9) schools are proposed science-focused schools, the other two being the first School of Creative Arts, Kwadaso, in Kumasi, and a Higher Technical School in Dabaa, named after the former President JA Kufour. .
Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh told the president that contracts for the construction of these schools were awarded in October 2019, and the sites were turned over to contractors by consultants a month later.
“This school (in Awaso) is being called a model school because this is what a school should look like, with the full complement of activities, from playing fields, administrative buildings, libraries, and it is happening under their supervision.” said the minister to President Akufo-Addo.
He continued: “When you compare it (model schools) with block E, block E has only twelve (12) classrooms, and this V block (in model schools) has twenty-four classrooms and there is room for expansions.”
Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh told the president that plans are being prepared for the construction of thirty-five (35) more model schools across the country.

School of Creative Arts
The first School for Creative Arts in Ghana, located in Kwadaso, will equip students for the arts, through powerful learning experiences, embrace and excel in the arts and academics, while working towards their visions of the future.
The Project has been designed to include the following 2-story administration block; library block; auditorium / theater (capacity designed for 1,300); 4-story, 16-unit creative arts block with ancillary facilities; 20-unit, 4-story classroom block with 4 dedicated lab rooms; 3-story dormitory block; 2-storey bedroom block; dining room with kitchen; residence of the director; 2 deputy directors’ residence, 2 no. floors for staff; sports area; maintenance shed; waste treatment / storage bay; paved driveways and walkways; and front door.
This school, honoring the former president of Ghana, JA Kufour, will equip students for artistic, scientific and technical disciplines through interactive experiences using cutting edge methods.
The School will strive to educate students through theoretical and practical training in technical disciplines, creative production, and processes for technical education, and provide a backbone for industry under the One District One Factory (1D1F) program.
Create an environment that supports the implementation of a rich and rigorous technical curriculum and fosters a culture of technical and entrepreneurial thinking, learning, creative production, and achievement of excellence.
