Man Utd fears Victor Lindelof is at risk of exhaustion after two Premier League matches

Manchester United fear that Victor Lindelof is in danger of exhaustion after just two games of the Premier League season.

The Swedish central defender struggled during last weekend’s surprising home loss to Crystal Palace and then was left out of United’s victory over Luton in the Carabao Cup.

He returned on Sunday for the thrilling victory over Brighton, but there are serious concerns within Old Trafford that Lindelof is battling fatigue after a grueling extended 2019-20 campaign.

The 26-year-old former Benfica star played 47 games for United last season but was left out of his country’s UEFA Nations League clash with Portugal last month with the Swedish medical team concerned about his fitness.

And it seems United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come to a similar conclusion as the club’s search for another central defender intensifies.

Solskjaer admitted at the head of Brighton’s game that he was concerned about his defensive options.

However, despite hinting that he could call on Eric Bailly to accompany Harry Maguire in center defense at Amex Stadium, the United manager decided to stay with Lindelof.

That shows that he still has great faith in the player, who would like to have a proper rest next month during the international break.

It remains to be seen whether Sweden agrees with him, but all parties are ready to discuss the matter in the coming weeks.

The Swedes are scheduled to play three games in six days, with a friendly in Russia before UEFA Nations League clashes in Croatia and Portugal.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer admitted his team was lucky after Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty after the final whistle against Brighton.

Manchester United are looking to chart their way back to the top. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed Donny van de Beek, but Jadon Sancho remains Manchester United’s number one target.

“When they tied I thought they were two points lost. Maybe one point was what we deserved. I don’t think we deserve more, but the character we show deserved more.”

After the wood was hit five times by the home team, the Norwegian joked: “We have to be thankful that José (Mourinho) is not here to measure the posts, it could have been smaller goals!”

However, he added: “They created too much for my liking, but it is a difficult team to play, with very good players at the back.

“We know we have to improve a lot. Last week (at home to Crystal Palace) we were very disappointed that we didn’t get anything out of the game, but we showed the answer today. We had too many draws last season so that’s a huge advantage. for us.”
