Defender Tariq Lamptey has revealed that he wants to make his parents proud after supporting his dream of becoming a footballer.
The Brighton and Hove Albion right-back has been in excellent shape this season and produced another impressive performance when the Seagulls narrowly lost to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.
But the 19-year-old insists that the player he has become today was greatly shaped by his parents, who made sure he followed his dreams of reaching the top.
“My parents are a huge influence on me,” she told the Brighton and Hove Albion website. “They always took me all over the country to training sessions.
“It is not easy as a parent, especially when you are working and trying to support your family, taking your child to Manchester or Birmingham as well.
“It is hard work. I also have two younger brothers, so it was not an easy time. [I remember] little things like my mother picking me up from school, bringing me food in the car and heading straight to practice because the traffic was so bad on the M25. Or my dad trains me early in the morning before school.
“He says he was a footballer, but I haven’t seen any video to prove it! It has played a very important role in why I am here today and my mother also because they sacrificed so much for me.
“It means a lot to me to play in the Premier League and hopefully give back to them as well.”
