Peter Dawuni, Zoomlion North Regional Manager, said that around 79 upper secondary schools (SHS) and 5,200 elementary schools in the region are expected to be disinfected for schools to reopen on October 5, 2020.

He said the exercise marked the third phase of the national disinfection exercise and was expected to be completed before the reopening date, as directed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mr Dawuni, who spoke with Journalists in Tamale, said that the exercise was conducted by Zoomlion Ghana Limited in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES).

“It is part of the government’s measures to combat the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and also safeguard the SHS and schoolchildren of Basic from attracting the virus to complete their academic calendar.

Chief Judge Sully, principal of Tiyumba S / D School, the first to be disinfected, thanked the government and Zoomlion for the exercise.

According to him, his teaching and non-teaching staff were prepared to welcome students back to school, adding: “All COVID-19 security protocols have been in place to ensure that students adhere to them.”

He said his school had more classrooms to accommodate students and ensure social / physical distancing. “We will also apply the rule of“ No facial / nasal mask allowed ”; in fact, that is the new logo of the school and we are expecting around 180 students ”.

The Tiyumba S / D School team relocated to Kalponhin SDA School and Bamba International Academy Complex, both in the Tamale North constituency.
