Inspector General of Police James Oppong-Buanuh has assured Ghanaians of fair, truthful and professional policing before, during and after the December elections.
He said that ensuring peace before, during and after the December elections was a collective responsibility, of which the police are willing to do their part.
He called on the public to do the same to ensure a peaceful and uneventful election.
Oppong-Buanuh said this when he visited the Western Regional Police command to assess their readiness for the December elections.
The IGP and its entourage witnessed a simulation exercise in which the police showed their readiness to tackle a situation in which a collection center, a voting center and EC officials are attacked and kidnapped by ‘Bandits’.
Oppong-Buanuh said that the police were ready to stop all violent cases that might occur during the elections and called on the media to help the police to achieve this by educating the public not to commit violent acts before, during and after December. center.
He said the police would be impartial and provide security to all eligible voters visiting polling stations.
The IGP called on stakeholders to cooperate and support the police so that they can carry out their mandate.
He also called on the media, in particular, to collaborate with the police to educate the public against violent acts, stressing that violence is not worth it.
The IGP said that during the vote, the police personnel will not be the only team that will provide security, but other security agencies, such as the Fire Service, the Immigration Service, the Prisons and the Armed Forces will also provide security and requested to the public to give them the same cooperation and cordiality.
Mr. Oppong-Buanuh was accompanied by the COP, Mr. George Alex Mensah, Director General of Services, the COP, Ms. Yaa Tiwaah, Director General of Welfare and the COP, Mr. Boadu Peprah, Director General of Operations.
The IGP previously paid a courtesy visit to the supreme chief of the traditional Essikado-Keten area, Nana Kobina Nketiah V, and held a durbar for the regional and district commanders.
