14 Simple Makeup Tips For Women Over 50 To Feel Young Forever

[ad_1]

Eye makeup for older women is a way to stay youthful and look radiant all the time.

Gone are the days of piling on makeup to look more mature and being served at a bar. Once you pass 50, makeup is the most useful weapon in your arsenal of ways to defy aging.

Some wrinkles here and there is something to embrace and celebrate. But our faces can betray us when we wear makeup by inadvertently emphasizing lines and pigmentation issues rather than hiding them.

All the usual techniques that we learned when we were 20 years old, when our skin was plump and full of life, are suddenly useless when you have new problems to cover.

Because nobody likes to look scruffy, especially when you’re still feeling young at heart.

1. Remember that less is more.

As our skin ages, more fine lines, discoloration, and dark spots appear. While it’s tempting to go for a full-coverage foundation to mask the signs of aging, these heavy products can appear curmudgeonly on older skin.

A drop in hormone levels also leaves your skin with more dry patches that heavy makeup can adhere to. Instead, it’s best to go for a more natural look by using light concealers, BB creams, or tinted moisturizers to cover up blemishes without exaggerating your appearance.

2. Gentle application needs exfoliation.

Good makeup starts with great skincare.

Dry patches and exfoliating wrinkles soften skin and give it a cheerful, youthful glow. It also makes for a much more even base for makeup, which means your makeup will glide on smoothly and last for hours.

Since physical scrubs can pull on weakened skin and deepen wrinkles, a chemical scrub is the perfect way to remove dead skin cells without irritating your skin. Exfoliate once or twice a week and then moisturize to keep skin hydrated.

3. Always wear SPF to protect your skin.

Protecting your skin from sun damage is by far one of the best things you can do to minimize the signs of aging.

Since many anti-aging products contain retinol and other ingredients that make skin more sensitive to the sun, applying a strong SPF under makeup will prevent harmful UV damage.

Look for at least SPF 30 on all your products for the day. You can even charge and be safe if you have SPF in your moisturizer, primer, and foundation.

4. Use primer to keep skin smooth under makeup.

Primer is the easiest trick in the game to make skin look flawlessly smooth. It is designed to fill in pores and lines and provide a base for a perfect makeup application. It also prevents makeup from slipping and slipping throughout the day.

Apply a pea-sized amount of primer to hydrated skin before applying makeup.

5. Shine under your eyes.

Eyes never lie, so they are often the first thing to let us down when trying to look younger. The skin under the eyes is thin and more prone to wrinkles and dark circles, so a light touch of concealer can work wonders here.

To avoid looking cakey, don’t put foundation or tinted moisturizer over your concealer. Concealers tend to have fuller coverage and can handle those bags under the eyes on their own.

It can also be helpful to go for a concealer that’s slightly lighter than your skin tone to really brighten your eyes.

6. Use a flat brush to blend makeup.

Conventional makeup tactics generally involve full coverage and full foundation extension, but this doesn’t always work on mature skin.

The center of the face is the most vascularized and the one that most needs coverage thanks to the nasolabial folds and the wrinkles of the cheeks. Therefore, it may be helpful to apply light dots of cream foundation or tinted moisturizers to these areas, and buff with a fluffy flat brush to avoid harsh lines.

7. Get rid of face powder.

Shiny, wet makeup is all the rage these days, which is great for older women. But powders can stick to dry skin and wrinkles, emphasizing rather than masking them. Removing setting powder and opting for cream contours, blushes, and highlighters makes your makeup look more natural and skin-like.

Rub a cream brush on the apples of your cheeks and buff it with your index and middle fingers or a brush. These blush sticks can also double as lipsticks to really tie in your makeup look.

8. Add bronze to your face.

Bronzer can really warm up dull skin tones and add a youthful glow to your face.

Apply a small amount to the high points of the face to emphasize the cheekbones and blend well to give your skin a natural lift.

9. Add some glitter.

Many people avoid highlighter for fear of looking greasy or cartoonish, but, like contouring, it can give you a natural, youthful glow.

If you have gone for a cream blush and cream contour, you may want to use the highlighter in stride because these products will already add a dewy effect. But if you want a bit more shine, focus your highlighter on the places where the light naturally hits your face: the brow bone, the cheekbones and the bridge of the nose.

10. Prepare your eyelids.

Like face primer, eyeshadow primer can fill in wrinkles and lines where shadows can seep in.

Because our lids tend to get greasy, using a foundation ensures that the eyeshadow stays in place and lasts all day.

11. Light up your face.

Leave the smokey eyes and thick eyeliner to the youngsters and go for a more timeless look with lighter colors.

Gray and purple tones can emphasize dark circles and prominent veins, especially when dust particles start to fall from the lids throughout the day. Go for neutral tones like peach, mauve, or brown depending on your skin tone.

Fill in your brows if they are sparse, but don’t go overboard with the caterpillar brow look by using soft strokes with your brow pencil.

12. Define the lash line.

Makeup is all smoke and mirrors. The best way to distract attention from wrinkles and fine lines is to emphasize and brighten the eyes.

Press your liner between each lash along the lash line to make your lashes look thick and full before you even add mascara. Add a light stroke of eyeliner along the waterline.

It may also be time to ditch your trusty eyeliner pencil. These can pull the skin around the eyes and leave the eyeliner looking patchy and messy. Liquid eyeliner allows for a more fluid application.

If you don’t know of a liquid coating, fear not. Smudging a thin line of brown eyeliner or dark eyeshadow can subtly darken the lash line.

13. Pucker your lips with a great lipstick.

Lipsticks are a great way to add color and shine to your look.

Prep your lips by removing dead skin cells and using a moisturizing balm. You can also outline your lips before applying lipstick to define your shape and prevent color from settling into the lines around your mouth.

Choose lipsticks that have a hydrating formula to prevent color from sticking to blemishes or cracked lines.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to play with colors. Since your makeup look is neutral, your lips create a great pop of color. Try a deep red or a hint of pink.

14. Set your look with setting sprays.

As your skin changes, your makeup may fade faster, settle in lines, or just change throughout the day.

Since we’re removing setting powder, a hydrating setting spray can lock in moisture, protect your makeup, and leave you feeling refreshed.
