The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. James Oppong-Buanuh, has paid a one-day working visit to the Western Regional Police Command to assess its readiness for the December presidential and parliamentary elections.
Mr. Oppong-Buanuh advised police officers to act professionally before, during and after the December elections to gain the public’s trust.
He urged the youth of the Region to avoid electoral violence to guarantee peace and unity.
Mr. Oppong-Buanuh asked residents to volunteer information to the police so that they could fight crime.
The IGP also called for tolerance between political parties to guarantee uneventful elections in December.
Regarding logistics, Mr. Oppong-Buanuh assured the Regional Police command that everything possible will be done so that they can fulfill their functions.
The IGP was accompanied by the Police Commissioner (COP) Mr. George Alex Mensah, General Director of Services, COP Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaah, General Director of Welfare and COP Mr. Boadu Peprah, General Director of Operations.
The IGP and its team witnessed a simulation exercise by the Regional Police Command and then held a durbar with all the Division and District commanders.
He also held a closed-door meeting with Mr. Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, Regional Minister of the Regional Coordination Council, and Okatakye Kwasi Bumagamah II, the Supreme Chief of Sefwi-Waiwso at his palace.
