FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his condolences to the victims of the tragic car accident last Saturday that involved young footballers on the Offinso road.
In a letter to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the president of the world football governing body, underscored his support for the families of the eight footballers who lost their lives and those who were injured after the vehicle in which they They were traveling, unfortunately, to land. on the river Offin.
“It is with great shock and deep sadness that I send you this message, after learning of the tragic death of eight young footballers after a car accident in Offinso, in the Ashanti region,” wrote the FIFA President in his letter to the GFA . President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku.
“On behalf of FIFA and the global football community, we would like to express our condolences to the GFA, the National Youth Committee and, above all, to the families, friends and loved ones of the victims.
“Our thoughts are also with the injured to whom we wish a speedy and full recovery. The international football community expresses its deepest condolences to all of them at this very painful moment, ”he said.
He added: “In these moments of great pain, we accompany them from a distance and hope that this message can alleviate their pain and provide them with support and comfort.”
This follows an accident on Saturday, involving some 34 young footballers from Africa Vision Soccer Academy who claimed the lives of eight footballers when the minibus they were traveling in sank in the Offinso River.
Sadly, six of the young footballers died at the scene, while one, who was in critical condition, died at Komfo Anokye University Hospital in Kumasi on Sunday. Later another victim was registered.
Fortunately, 10 of the victims were treated at St. Patrick’s Hospital and have been discharged while others continue to receive treatment at the various hospitals.
