‘Tourism Industry Will Rebound’ – Casa Bar, Others Win at Eastern Regional Tourism Awards

The Executive Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, is confident that the country’s tourism industry will soon recover.

The COVID-19 pandemic that paralyzed economic activities around the world affected many industries and one of the hardest was the tourism sector due to the movement restrictions that were imposed.

But with restrictions easing, the CEO is confident that the previously dynamic sector will recover soon.

Mr. Akwasi Agyeman spoke at the Eastern Regional Tourism Awards program that was organized by the GTA.

He said that some hotels had already begun to show signs of recovery from the effect of the pandemic.

Also speaking at the event, the Vice Minister of the Eastern Region, Mr. Samuel Nuertey Aryetey, urged private organizations to partner with the tourism industry to promote the economy, saying that the government alone could not handle the vast prospects. of the industry.

He urged GTA and other stakeholders to take advantage of the experience to bring direct investment to the region to promote tourism both in the region and in the country for the “Beyond Return” project.

Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) was honored as the Print Toursim Oriented Media House at the 14th Eastern Regional Tourism Awards in Koforidua last Saturday.

The Daily Graphic, GCGL’s flagship newspaper, was honored for its excellence in reporting and promoting tourism in the region for 2019.

A former Daily Graphic correspondent in the Eastern Region, Ms. Naa Lamiley Bentil, was also named Print Tourism Correspondent of the Year.

Her story, titled “Nana Akufo’s Former Residence,” as well as others such as the uniqueness of Boti Falls and the abandoned Tetteh Quarshie cocoa farm in Mampong won out over her and the newspaper.

The ceremony was used to honor individuals, companies and organizations for their contribution to the development and promotion of tourism in the region in 2019.

With the theme “Tourism growth beyond return”, the awards were given in the areas of media, accommodation, food and beverages, visitor attraction and special recognition.

Other winners

Kwami Sefa Kayi, television journalist and former Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Journalist of the Year, was awarded the “All Time Brand Icon of the Eastern Regional Tourism Awards”

Casa Bar and Grill was also awarded Pub of the Year, and Citi TV and Peace FM also won tourism-oriented media for television and radio, respectively.

The Royal Senchi Hotel & Resort won the award for the best four-star hotel; Capital View Hotel won the award for the best three-star hotel; Dodi World was awarded the Best Visitor Attraction Site; while the Linda Dor Freeway Rest Stop won the award for best freeway rest stop of the year.

Hill Palace Hotel, Krossova Leisure Center, Charlotte Court Hostel, 3A’s Guest House, Akosombo and Kingsville Hotel received special awards.
