The government led by Nana-Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will update Ghanaians today, Tuesday 22 September 2020, on the main interventions it has carried out since taking office in January 2017.
The event to be held on the theme: “Leadership that Pays for Youth” is scheduled to take place in Accra.
Today’s event will focus on youth agencies that have been leading the implementation of the government’s vision when it comes to youth development and nation building.
Speaking about what to expect at the event, Deputy Minister of Information Pius Enam Hadzi told the media that youth development agencies “will take the stage to be accountable to the people of Ghana and update them on the various flagship interventions that have been carried out by this administration. The whole idea is in keeping with His Excellency’s wish to remain accountable and transparent to the people of Ghana and we have decided that the accounting should be detailed and decentralized even to the point of implementation and that is why you will notice that in the updates for nation building, the focus is very much on implementing agencies compared to other platforms that the Ministry has that seek to focus on policies and ministerial reports and updates ”.
Hadzide further noted that the government’s priority is to avoid scandals.
“Because we want to close any gap that may exist between policy formulation and position and implementation on the ground.
“We want, in that process, to avoid the repetition of the GYEEDA scandals, the shame of SADA and so on because we want to keep our eyes on the implementation as well,” he added.
It is also expected that the different people responsible for the interventions deployed by the government to date will present a detailed report on the level of progress and achievements made.
According to the government, nation building updates will take place weekly.
The first edition will focus on youth development and job creation, while subsequent ones will focus on other thematic topics.
The National Youth Authority (NYA), the National Small-Scale Industries Board (NBSSI), the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP ) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) are some of the agencies hoping to inform Ghanaians about their achievements at today’s event.
