The Swedru Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union (STCCU) has made a cash donation of GH ₵ 1,000 to the 57-year-old woman who participated in the just-completed Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Madame Elizabeth Yamoah, a mother of four, was among the seniors at Agona Odoben ‘A’ Presbyterian Basic School who wrote the final exam at Agona Odoben High School (ODOSCO).

Madam Yamoah, a member of the STCCU, has also been appointed Ambassador for the union’s Youth Savings Account to undertake awareness raising to instill the habit of saving among students from elementary to high school.

Fundamental reason

In a short presentation after the examinations last Friday, the acting manager of the Breman Asikuma branch of the STCCU, Mr. Shad Nii Kotey Djanie, said that the gesture was to motivate Madam Yamoah who, despite her age, challenged all odds for completing high school (JHS).

According to him, although she was vilified by some members of her immediate society for choosing to go back to school rather than being at home to care for her children and grandchildren, hence the guild’s decision to support her in achieving such feet.

He noted that the goal behind the attendance was to enable him to participate in a profitable endeavor to improve his standard of living while awaiting publication of his results and placement in upper secondary school.

“This is start-up capital that will allow you to engage in small business while you are at home, which would go a long way towards improving your life before going back to school to acquire the SHS education,” he said.

She noted that the union would officially unveil her as a Youth Savings Account ambassador next month during the union’s Golden Jubilee anniversary celebration in Agona Swedru.

Take education seriously

Mr. Djanie admonished the youth to take their education seriously and stay focused to achieve their individual aspirations to contribute to the growth of their families and also the nation.

“I want to urge young people to take a lot of inspiration from Madam Yamoah and realize that with great determination and perseverance, they can always achieve their dreams or the ones they longed for,” he said.

He advised young people to avoid acts that tended to truncate their academic quest to become useful in society, highlighting “I want to admonish young people to overcome all distractions to achieve their aspirations in life.”

She said that had it not been for her father’s untimely death, which forced her to drop out of school in the fourth class, she would have aggressively pursued her childhood ambition to become a professional nurse.

He added that even if he is unable to acquire tertiary education, he would be able to speak English fluently after completing SHS, allowing him to compete in district-level elections to become a member of the assembly for his constituency in Asikuma Odoben Brakwa district. .
