Edouard Mendy approaches Chelsea change
According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Chelsea are getting closer to signing Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
in a cheep Done yesterday, the journalist confirmed that a deal has been made with Rennes for the shot plug. However, Mendy has yet to receive his medical exam, which will take place this week.
The 28-year-old has been with Rennes for just one year, having signed from French club Stade de Reims last summer on a deal worth £ 3.6 million.
Once the deal is complete, he will be Chelsea’s sixth major signing this summer. The Blues have acted with the intention of strengthening their side ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
Current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga has struggled to impress, so it was necessary to bring in a new goalkeeper.
The Spaniard shot himself in the foot again during yesterday’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool.
With 10 men and a goal down, Sadio Mane intervened in a failed clearance by Kepa to extend Jurgen Klopp’s lead.
Her confidence seems skyrocketing and Mendy’s arrival couldn’t have come at a better time. Being pulled out of the firing line will help divert Kepa’s attention, giving him a chance to boost morale behind the scenes.
Blues boss Frank Lampard had previously admitted that Mendy would compete with Kepa for the number one spot. Hopefully, this will help the Spaniard rediscover his prime.
More Chelsea news
The loss to Liverpool is a setback right now. It’s fair to say that we struggled properly in the first half despite the fact that several players were unavailable.
With players like Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Ben Chilwell yet to return, things can only get better for the Blues.
With 36 games remaining in the Premier League, there is a lot to play for.
