The Nigerian international found the back of the net to help the Canary Islands avoid defeat at the Stade de la Beaujoire

Moses Simon scored his first goal of the 2020-21 season for Nantes in a 2-2 draw against Saint-Etienne in Sunday’s Ligue 1 match.

The 25-year-old winger sealed a definitive signing to the Canaries this summer from Spanish Levante following his impressive performances with the club during his loan.

The Nigeria international played a key role as Christian Gourcuff’s men finished 13th in the French top flight last season and won the club’s Player of the Season award for their effort.

The forward has continued his striking performances this season, opening his account at the Stade de la Beaujoire against the Saints.

Nantes started the game with their back foot, allowing Claude Puel’s men to open the scoring from the second minute of the match through Adil Aouchiche.

Simon made a frantic effort to get back to his side in contention and came close to helping them level the proceedings in the 44th minute.

The Super Eagles winger sent a good cross into the area that Randal Muan controlled and shot into the back of the net, but the video assistant (VAR) ruled out the shot for offside.

Yvann Macon then doubled the Saints’ lead in the 66th minute of the game after benefiting from Aouchiche’s assist.

Simon then reduced the deficit for the Canaries in the 71st minute after receiving a sumptuous pass from Ghanaian defender Dennis Appiah.

With five minutes to go, Renaud Emond scored the all-important tying goal for Nantes to ensure his side scored a point on their home soil.

Simon appeared for the duration of the game, made three key passes and had a 75% pass rate in the game.

Gabon international Denis Bouanga played the 77th minute before giving way to Maxence Rivera, but was unable to help Saint-Etienne secure all three points away from home.

Simon hopes to continue his striking performances for Nantes when they face Lille in their next league match on 25 September.
