Luis Milla is a man who knows talent when he sees it.
The former Barcelona and Real Madrid player became a highly influential coach, leading the Spanish team from the U19-U23 categories and nurturing an impressive roster of future stars that included David de Gea, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata.
In 2011 he led the U21s to Eurocup glory, with one of his most impressive players, a 20-year-old midfielder who would go on to experience success at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and now quite possibly Liverpool.
For Milla, there was never any doubt that Thiago Alcantara had what it took to get to the top.
“It was clear from the start how good it would be,” Milla said. Sport mirror .
“Despite his age, he was extremely mature, very talented, and I immediately saw the ability he had. Since then he has shown everyone what he can do.”
Liverpool’s new signing is certainly exciting for Reds fans, and with his father Marzinho, World Cup winner with Brazil in 1994, it seems like Thiago was always destined for stardom.
“He has great genes, of course, as his father is a successful footballer,” adds Milla. “When he got to the U21 he was younger than most but it didn’t matter. He was always curious, he always questioned everything and played that way.
“Technically he is magnificent, but he is also a leader. He understands what is needed on the court at all times, the intensity, the pace of the game, and he does everything very well. It has been a great satisfaction to see how he has progressed.” .

Milla has no doubts about Thiago’s ability to adapt to life in the Premier League, and believes he will play a huge role in dictating the Reds’ play next season.
“Liverpool and their coach have understood their quality and are a club that acts very fast,” he continues. “They have players of such high quality both physically and mentally, who run and dominate the games, and Thiago will fit perfectly into that philosophy.
“Liverpool have grown a lot and want to win it all, but making this signing is a great declaration of intent.
“He is now a world-class central midfielder. Of course, he will have to adapt to the quality of the Premier League, but he is definitely capable of doing it.”
