17th COVID-19 Address: President Akufo-Addo Speaks Tonight

President Akufo-Addo will deliver his 17th update on measures taken to curb the spread of the Coronavirus tonight, September 20, 2020, the Information Ministry announced.

In a tweet, the Ministry said that the address would begin at 8 pm and would be broadcast on the main television networks in the country.

The president in his speech is expected to ease restrictions further and some contact sports are likely to return with spectators.

It will be recalled that after Ghana confirmed its first coronavirus case in March, all sporting activities, among others, were temporarily banned as part of measures to curb the spread of the infection.

However, the ban was later lifted on some non-contact sports in June, but contact sports, including soccer, have yet to receive a reprieve.

President Akufo-Addo, in his 16th address on the coronavirus on August 30, said that the resumption of contact sports, including soccer, would take into consideration the imminent participation of national teams in international competitions.
