“There is no manual for marriage, we must be patient” – Actress Toyin Abraham

Popular Nigerian actress Toyin Abraham has put her two cents on the topic of marriage and shared some tips on what makes marriage work.

In a video shared on YouTube monitored by Saturday Beats, Toyin Abraham, who is married to an actor and producer, Kolawole Ajeyemi said that there is no manual for marriage because what will work perfectly for someone will not work for the next person.

According to one’s mother, patience and respect play an important role in marriage, as husbands can be very irritating, but for one to stay married, one must learn the virtue of patience.

She said,

“I want everyone to know that there is no marriage manual and that we are not going to marry the same man. Even if we marry the same person, we don’t have the same attitude. Marriage counselors will only tell you the necessary things in life.

We must be patient. My husband is Kola, but I can’t tell you how to live with your own man, someone I haven’t lived with. Even a man who marries more than one wife would not treat them the same way. The way wives relate to their husbands will also be very different.

I can’t tell you about marriage, but the two things I can tell you will help you not only in your marriage but in your relationship right now.

You have to be patient (because) sometimes our husbands can be annoying. To stay married, your patience must be top-notch. Second, you must respect your man. I am an African woman and I am also educated, although I may not be as educated as some people. You have to respect your man. Lastly, your marriage has to come first.

These are the things that are important even when relating to other people. I usually tell people that marriage is very delicate. Sometimes when marriages fail and people advise a couple to “move on,” they think it is too easy to move on. Do you think it is easy? Marriage is deeper than many people think. You have to be submissive and respect your husband. I can’t say much about marriage because it doesn’t come with a manual.

I could marry a particular man and he could misbehave to me and someone else could marry the same man and he could be good to her. I’m still young in marriage, but what has worked for me is that I respect and honor my husband. “
