Madame Elizabeth Yamoah, a mother of four, was among hundreds of thousands of candidates who completed the 2020 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE) today, September 18, 2020.
The 57-year-old, who said she was mocked and ridiculed for trying to get some education at her age, was widely celebrated on Friday after presenting her latest work.
“When I decided to go to school, people in my community made fun of me,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
“Some even said that I should give up education for the younger ones, but I was determined to learn to read and write and that helped me throughout my education,” said the oldest Odoben Presby Basic “A” student who finished high school.
“My only challenge with my academic work was that my school has a computer lab, but we don’t have computers and we were struggling to learn ICT, so if benevolent Ghana can help us, I’ll be happy,” Ms Elizabeth Yamoah appealed.
For her determination and endurance, Madam Elizabeth Yamoah received a cash award of GHS1,000 and was named a brand ambassador for the Swedru Teachers Credit Union.
