Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has reportedly been disappointed in Zinedine Zidane’s handling of the Gareth Bale saga as the attacker draws closer to a return to Tottenham Hotspur.
Bale arrived at Spurs training camp today and is expected to join José Mourinho’s team on a loan agreement until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
The 31-year-old had a difficult relationship with Zidane during his time at the club and barely appeared with Los Blancos in the latter stages of the 2019-20 campaign.
According to AS, Pérez is of the opinion that the coach could have handled the situation differently, and the president believes that Bale could still have been an asset to the club last season.
The report claims that Pérez also disagrees with Zidane on Sergio Reguilón, who will join Bale at Tottenham this season, and that the 23-year-old is considered to be in excess of the Madrid manager’s requirements.
However, there is expected to be a buyback clause in the Reguilon deal, which would allow the La Liga champions to bring the Spaniard back to the Bernabéu for the next two years.
