The National Labor Commission (NLC) has obtained an interim court order to prevent the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) from going ahead with its planned strike.

The precautionary measure was obtained in Court 1 of the Labor Division of the Superior Court on Friday, September 18, 2020 and will last for ten days.

“The defendant is hereby ordered by itself, its executives, officers, members, agents, servants, employees and others to be prohibited from taking their planned strike action on Monday, September 21, 2020,” the court ordered . .

GRNMA had previously notified that all public sector nurses, midwives, physician assistants (PA) and anesthetists (CRA) will do so as of Monday, September 21, 2020. withdraw your services to demand better conditions of service.

The association said that the government’s position during the negotiations contradicted Law 651 of the Labor Law.

Section 97 of the cited law deals with issues of good faith for interested parties, with which the association appears to have a problem.

As a result of the impending strike, the association urged the general public to “seek medical attention at other health facilities.”

The decision comes after a series of meetings with the government.

One of the terms of service negotiation meetings was held on September 3, 2020 and “was not conclusive,” according to the association.

The most recent meetings for September were held on September 15-16.

“The employer’s proposal as reported cannot serve the financial interest of all PA nurses, midwives, and CRAs,” the association said.

He admitted that the “government’s stance changed for the better, but it did not meet his expectations.”

The association and the government were holding discussions on assignments for non-core categories two and three.
