On Friday, September 11, 2020, United Airlines Chief Executive Oscar Munoz called Ghana’s ambassador to the United States, HE Dr. Barfuor Adjei-Barwuah, to officially inform him of the company’s plan to reactivate its service without scales. from Washington DC to Accra.
As part of United Airlines’ plan to expand its global route network, the company has announced new nonstop services to parts of Africa, including Ghana, India and Hawaii. When operational, United Airlines will become the only U.S. airline to serve Accra nonstop from Washington, DC, with three weekly flights beginning in late spring 2021.
In recounting the past, the Ambassador expressed concern about the standard of aircraft that will be used for the route, the cost of tickets, and the quality of services that will be offered to Ghanaians. “While we are grateful for your decision to expand services to Ghana, we are also concerned about the type of services that will be provided to our citizens. We count on United to provide premium customer services and fair prices at all times. A relationship where our citizens receive exceptional services and Ghanaian workers employed by United Airlines are treated fairly, ”said the Ambassador.
In response to the Ambassador’s concerns, Mr. Muñoz assured him that his company is willing to treat Ghanaians fairly and with respect when it comes to prices and quality of services. Emphasizing the company’s commitment to safety, the CEO said: “We recognize the challenges associated with international flights, so we will do everything we can to ensure that we provide quality, convenient and safe services to the good people of Ghana. “.
United Airlines is committed to working closely with the Ghana Embassy and other relevant agencies in Ghana to ensure smooth operations.
