Motor driver Raymond Dodzi met his untimely death on the Hohoe-Fodome Highway in the Volta region after being shot down by a bullion truck.
According to sources, the van, which belonged to Agate Dabot Company, was transferring money from Ho to the Hohoe branch of Fidelity Bank.
In confirming the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Obeng Dickson, Commander of the Hohoe Traffic and Motor Transportation Directorate (MTTD) said that the driver, a cashier and a Police officer were the occupants of the van with registry number. GN 7144–17.
He said the driver, in an attempt to avoid hitting the passenger, caused the truck to somersault several times.
The Commander said that the accident damaged the boxes containing the cash and the impact forced them to open.
But the occupants in an attempt to rescue the money were unsuccessful as viewers chose and called their friends to the scene.
He said that information from the occupants of the bullion truck revealed that they were traveling with an amount of approximately GH ¢ 710,000.00 but that they were only able to recover GH ¢ 218,232 after the incident.
ASP Obeng said that a challenge facing the MTTD was the lack of a vehicle to respond quickly to emergencies within the Command.
He warned passengers and drivers to always respect traffic regulations and comply with all road safety protocols.
