The voter display exercise could be hanging by a thread after some staff members who were hired by the Electoral Commission (EC) for its voter registration exercise have promised not to show up at the exhibition centers, citing failure to comply with commissioning your financial obligation as the reason.

According to the irate people who were officials from the June-July voter registration exercise, the EC promised that the money they owned would be paid out by the end of August. To their dismay, the commission has not yet fulfilled the commitment and they have not been told the reason for the delay.

In July, some registry officials accused the EC of cajoling them into agreeing to serve as civil servants at various registry centers by promising to give them sizable remuneration only to be disappointed weeks after exercise.

According to the disgruntled official, they expected better numbers considering how they have had to risk their lives at a time when the coronavirus is spreading rapidly.

Following a GhanaWeb post on the concerns raised, the EC in a memorandum to the Regional Directors stated the approved rates for various categories of staff and instructed strict compliance. As is evident from the memorandum, the mills are expected to be paid an amount of GH ¢ 75 per day, while the data entry clerk and registration officers will be paid GH ¢ 90 and GH ¢ 100 per day. , respectively.

The EC also noted that funds have been allocated to cover transportation fees for officials.

But more than a month after the registration exercise, the staff has not yet been paid. Some of them told GhanaWeb that they borrowed money from their colleagues during the registration process and that they cannot repeat the act when they are being “treated unfairly”.

The EC has set Friday September 18-25 as the display period for the recently compiled record. This, according to the Commission, is in accordance with 23 (1) of CI91 of the 2016 Public Elections Regulations.

It will take place in all polling stations in the country. The one-week exercise will take place from 7:00 a.m. M. At 6:00 p. M. Every day, including Saturdays and Sundays.
