Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Thiago Alcantara would be a “very good addition” to the club after the Reds reached a £ 25 million deal with Bayern Munich for the midfielder.

The 29-year-old is ready to put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Anfield after the Reds finally agreed to a fee with the Germans for the former Barcelona star.

Thiago’s arrival was believed to be dependent on the departure of Gini Wijnadlum, who is a Ronald Koeman goal in Barcelona.

But if WIjnaldum stays, Jurgen Klopp will have a lot of options in midfield, but Carragher believes Thiago can bring something more “technical” to midfield.

“Liverpool have five or six midfielders, they rotate well because they need energy in that position, but a lot of the players are quite similar,” Carragher said.

Thiago would be something different, less in energy but more technical, and I think he would be a very good addition.

“Liverpool are world class in the upper end of the field, world class in terms of defense and goalkeeper; I think they are first class in the midfield.

“ Technically something could be added and Thiago fits the bill so keep your fingers crossed and he’s coming. ”

It remains to be seen if Liverpool would allow Wijnaldum to join Barcelona, but they value the Dutchman at around £ 30 million.

The midfielder has a year to fulfill his existing contract at Anfield and the club was eager to offer him an extension.

However, Klopp remains determined to keep the former Newcastle ace and started in a 4-3 win against Leeds United in the first weekend of the season.
