A new regulation enacted under the civil service in Ghana will end the appointment of civil servants and public sector employees who fail the promotion interview three consecutive times.

The Civil Service Council signed the new law at its meeting held on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Therefore, the Council approved by consensus Section 4.23.8.2 of the Human Resource Management Policy Manual and Framework of the Ghana Public Utilities Commission to update the law that states:

“A candidate who does not pass a promotion interview for two (2) consecutive times will remain in that candidate’s position for another two years within which the candidate will be placed in a Performance Improvement Program (PIP) before returning to Request consideration for promotion if vacancies are declared. If a candidate fails an interview a third time, the candidate’s appointment will be terminated. “
