An Accra court has referred the four people arrested in connection with the murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, a law professor at the University of Ghana.
They are Christian Pobee, 32, James Nana Womba, 26, Isaac Botchwey, 41, and Adams Mensah Mansur, 52.
These suspects, according to the police, performed domestic services at the Adjirigano home of the late head teacher.
The late Professor Benneh was found murdered at his Accra residence on Saturday 12 September.
According to his colleague in the faculty, Dr. Poku Adusei, the professor was “assassinated” in the same way as the late Abuakwa North MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.
“It seems to be an act perpetuated about three days ago [Thursday]But it was just discovered this morning, ”he said of the unfortunate incident at the late Professor Benneh.
The police collected the body of Professor Benneh who lives alone in his house that fateful day.
According to Kaneshie District Court documents, Professor Benneh was found dead with a rag over his mouth and his hands and legs tied with rope.
Lawyers for two of the defendants are already challenging the work done by police investigators. A member of the legal team Robert Sumaa told the court on Wednesday that prosecutors have not shown how the defendants are connected to the crime.
He urged the court to grant them bail, insisting that despite being saddened by the death of the professor, the police must carry out thorough investigations.
State prosecutors objected to the bail request, saying investigations had just begun and the request was premature.
The court chaired by Eleanor Botwe denied bail to the defendant. The session continues on September 30.
