Timo Werner: we can beat Liverpool

Timo Werner believes that Chelsea have the talent in their team to beat Premier League champions Liverpool.

The Blues got off to a perfect start to the Premier League with a 3-1 win against Brighton on Monday night and will host the Reds in their first home tie of the 2020/21 season.

Werner and his partner, new signing Kai Havertz, debuted during the match at AMEX Stadium, despite the latter struggling for long periods.

The former RB Leipzig striker was buoyant throughout the match, even winning Jorginho’s penalty for the first goal.

Speaking on Wednesday, the forward was full of confidence, before the showdown.

“I’m looking forward to the game because you have a lot of good teams and with Liverpool, one of the best in the world,” Werner replied during an interview with the club’s official website.

“They won the league last year and they have the same team as last year, so they will be as strong as last year. So it will be a big challenge for us to see how far we are.”

“We have some good players, but calm and pleasant. We can do well with this team in the coming months and years to come.”

“We will improve match by match, but now we have to play on Sunday and we will try to win the match. We are playing against a strong team and they have such good players, not only Virgil van Dijk, the entire defensive part of Liverpool is very good, they have received the fewest goals in the league and a great team in all positions.

“But we also have great players and we have the quality to beat them. It will be an interesting game,” he added.

Liverpool was one of the clubs Werner was linked to before joining the Blues, but he added that he was happy to have made the decision.

The Reds won both games against the Blues last season, including a 5-3 victory in the second leg at Anfield in July when they were crowned champions.
