The Kyekyewere accident, which occurred around 4.30 am Tuesday, involved a cargo truck and two (2) commercial buses.
Recent updates show that 14 people have died and more than 50 injured. The injured are receiving treatment at Suhum and Nsawam government hospitals.
5-year-old ‘confused’
The Eastern Regional Director of the National Road Safety Commission, Mr. Abdulai Bawa Ghansah, reacting to the accident in an interview on Me Man Nti by Neat FM program, narrated how a child clung to the mother’s slippers wondering where she is.
“One of the ladies who died and left her five-year-old son was seen looking for the mother holding her slippers she was just walking looking for the mother” he indicated sadly.

Details of the accident
In a report presented by Peace FM’s Eastern Region Correspondent Michael Akrofi, the cargo truck heading towards Kumasi from Accra blew out a tire, causing the driver to drift out of his lane into the lane of a bus. STC approaching followed by another bus.
The buses involved in the accident were an STC bus with the registration GE 8131-16 and another bus with the registration GT 4997-20.
