Originally scheduled for September 12, the game was first delayed to September 15 due to poor air quality due to smoke from the wildfires that still burn across much of Oregon.

A statement from the NWSL read: “The National Women’s Soccer League has postponed tomorrow’s game between Portland Thorns FC and OL Reign due to continuing concerns about air quality in the Northwest region. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday. September 30 at 7 pm PST in Providence Park. “

According to the Oregonian, government offices and numerous schools in the Portland area remained closed Monday due to poor air quality, with only a gradual improvement expected until the middle of the week.

A NWSL spokesperson told ESPN that the league has the final say on whether to play games, but considers comments from the teams involved.

Portland is now scheduled to begin the fall series at home against the Utah Royals on Sept. 20, with no indication yet that the game could be moved or postponed. OL Reign will now also open her fall schedule against Utah, traveling to play the Royals on September 26.
