David Tiahno Quarshie, the New Patriotic Party (PNP) parliamentary candidate for Ketu South has launched two farm tractor services to help subsidize the cost of farming in the township.

The tractor service under the ‘Ketu South Shall Prosper Initiative’, which aims to improve productivity, would work for the township’s farmers with a 50 percent subsidy.

Mr. Quarshie, speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate a Committee for Tractor Service, said the gesture was his social responsibility and contribution to the growth of agriculture in the area.

He said that being a farmer himself, he understood farmers’ problems and hoped to do more to reduce their burden, revealing that in 2016, he provided seedlings to farmers in the municipality to benefit from his agricultural business.

William Ayiteyvi, Municipal Director of Agriculture, stressed the importance of a tractor service for farmers and thanked Mr. Quarshie for the gesture.

He said the support would motivate many more people to move from subsistence to commercial farming, as well as those who may have been forced to leave farming due to the high costs involved in returning to farming.
