Former President John Dramani Mahama has commiserated with the family, friends and supporters of the late University of Ghana law professor Professor Yaw Benneh, who was horribly murdered at his Accra residence.
He said he was devastated by the news and has tasked law enforcement agencies with taking swift action to bring the perpetrators to the registry.
In a Twitter post on September 9, 2020, Mahama wrote: “I am devastated by the news of the gruesome murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh of the University of Ghana. My condolences to his family, friends, the Legon and the legal fraternity.
He added: “The government and law enforcement agencies must take swift action to investigate and arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime. We also urgently need to guarantee the safety and protection of our citizens ”.
So far, the Greater Accra Police Command has detained about four people in connection with the alleged murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh.
The suspects, according to Accra Regional Command Public Relations Officer Effia Tenge, “have been suspects” after the incident.
“The Police have arrested four people suspected of the murder of the law professor at his home in Adjiringano. They are currently being questioned as part of police investigations. The four people are domestic workers of the deceased, ”he said.
Since then, Professor Benneh’s body has been transferred to the Accra Police Hospital morgue.
Professor Benneh is said to have been murdered at his Adjiriganor residence in East Legon after his mutilated body was found on Saturday morning.
Her legs and arms were tied while her body was between the living room and the bedroom.
